Redmond RJ-912S is a classic variation of similar models with a vertically arranged auger. But externally, this juicer differs from the usual figure with a long neck and loading tray. In this device, the upper part resembles a goiter pelican, which allows you to load some of the ingredients in their entirety.

The model is multifunctional: it declares the ability not only to squeeze juice from various vegetables and fruits (including pomegranate), but also to chop and rub products.

The device comes in a tall and narrow rectangular box of Redmond signature colors. The box on top is equipped with a handle.

At first sight

The model is tall, similar to a model of either a rocket or a futuristic TV tower. The case in the form of a truncated cone is made of chromed metal. The control panel occupies a rather impressive place in this part of the design. The bottom of the case is equipped with four rubberized legs.

Touch control panel, buttons are indicated by pictograms with LED backlight.

The separator bowl (round plastic cross section in cross section) has two nozzles: round for the exit of juice and rectangular for the exit of the cake. Outlets have covers to block the exit of the product. At the bottom of the bowl is a hole for the auger or sleeve, sealed with a silicone ring. Bottom, under the bottom, there is a silicone shut-off valve for the cake spout. The mechanism that fills the bowl consists of a strainer into which the auger is inserted and a rotating cleaner worn on the filter.

The neck, which is also the loading section, has a complex shape (and, as experiments later showed, a difficult fate). From above, it looks like an oval. But on the front side of the device this is called a large loading hole with a bookmark mechanism, and on the back - a small loading hole, that is, an ordinary narrow neck with a pusher.

Also, two round nozzles are attached to the device: a shredder and a grater, in addition to them - a separate bowl lid, a sleeve and a small pusher. All this looks pretty familiar, like in any food processor.

The glasses are different: for larger juice and with a handle, for smaller cake and without a handle.

Instructions and recipe book

The instruction is a paper clip brochure published in several languages. At the beginning - a detailed drawing of the parts of the device, on the following pages these parts are described. The text of the manual is very dry, concise, sufficient for assembly, but not for answers to all questions. During testing, we did not have enough information about how large the products are and what type can be laid in a large loading hole. And the lack of information about the main features of the juicer (loading large pieces, slow auger) was surprising. The latter is not indicated at all on the website, nor in the manual, nor at dealers - only an attentive reader of the box will notice the words “Slow juicer”.

A recipe book - a classic Redmond look: a bright, beautiful brochure on quality paper, with full-color pictures. Recipes for juices and cocktails in it can be looked through for entertainment, inspiration and overall development.

Control

On the top of the panel are three rows of three buttons. These are the operating modes: hard, medium, soft, mix, vegetables, smoothies, grater / shredder, pomegranate, cleaning. Juicer programs differ mainly in power indicators.

Four buttons at the bottom - menu, start, reverse, on / off. The menu scrolls through the programs, the inclusion differs from the start in that it wakes the car, but does not start the motor. Accordingly, by disconnecting the juicer with a button, you can safely disassemble it for washing without removing the cord from the outlet. Reverse starts auger reverse.

Exploitation

The assembly of the device for the first time out of habit causes questions. In fact, the only difficulty arises is the moment of the trial with a bayonet fitting securing the separator bowl to the housing. This model has protection against improper assembly - in this case, the motor simply will not start.

The auger is installed in the strainer, a rotating cleaner is put on top of the filter, all this together simply clicks into the bowl, and the loading section is put on and fixed with the same bayonet mount. The device is assembled, now you need to connect it to the network, substitute the glasses and prepare the ingredients for pressing.

Cleaning before first use is carried out using the function of the same name. To do this, pour 500 milliliters of pure water into the neck and turn on the “Cleaning” program. In this case, the nozzles must be closed so that the water does not spill out before the end of the operation. When the cleaning is completed, you need to open the spout of the cake outlet and drain all the water.

Having completed the above procedure, we did not notice dirt in the drained water and did not smell the characteristic smells of new plastic. But this way of preparing for work (press the button and get the result) we liked very much.

During the testing of the device, we had complaints only about the design of the wide loading opening. The bookmarking mechanism (two wide plastic blades working in the manner of a turnstile) caught a couple of times on citrus fibers and stuck inside. It’s almost impossible to clear the “goiter” from the products in order to free the blade, this is the most inaccessible place from advertising, in which there are even no teeth. Neither the pusher nor the reverse will help here, only the careful release of the blade with the help of improvised tools. The ingredients themselves, especially soft ones, get stuck in the same place.

Otherwise, the use of a juicer seemed to us quite understandable and convenient. Protection against drops (caps, locking noses) proved to be a very convenient function: after interacting with it, it becomes strange that this is a chip, and not a universal solution for the average producer of juicers. However, many familiar convenient things were once experiments of bold innovators.

The self-cleaning function is good, but not universal. In order to clean the parts well, the juicer still needs to be disassembled and washed under the tap with a special brush. Of particular difficulty, as usual, is the cleaning of the filter, and even that complexity is not particularly difficult, you just have to be attentive, consistent and hardworking for a couple of extra minutes.

But the cleaning mode helps a lot if you have terrible time to wash the device after use. Soaked in this way, the insides calmly wait when you have the opportunity to do them. We conducted an experiment, leaving the device in this state for a whole day. Water did not leak, the cake scraps did not dry out, we washed the device as we washed immediately after cleaning and did not experience any unnecessary difficulties. However, in regular life it’s better not to do so.

Our measurements

We measured the power of the device in different modes using a laboratory wattmeter.

In the "soft" mode, the power ranges from 30 to 40 watts.

In the "medium" mode - 80-90 watts.

In the “solid” mode, the average engine power is about 200 watts, while we noted fluctuations of indicators from 80 to 230 watts.

The power consumption of the juicer is low. The noise, thanks to low revs, is not strong.

The arithmetic average of the juice yield for the result of 4 mandatory tests is 567 grams.

The average operating time is 4 minutes 40 seconds.

Practice tests

We conducted a classic test of a juicer according to the methodology. Squeezed juice from pink grapefruits, green Granny Smith apples, carrots and cabbage. In each case, we took a kilogram of product and measured the spin speed and weight of the juice obtained.

Since the device is auger, we also tested working with fiber products by squeezing juice from celery. We also tested the recipe book by making a cocktail on her advice.

Pink grapefruit, 1 kilogram

We cleaned the grapefruit, broke it into pieces (not into slices, because we have a wide loading hole) and started the device in soft mode.

The process took 4 minutes 14 seconds. The weight of the juice obtained is 734 grams. Volume - 830 milliliters.

The juice is cloudy, with a suspension of pulp, but there is almost no foam. Cake wet.

During loading, the grapefruit stuck in the neck and had to be rescued right in the process.

Verdict: good. But uncomfortable.

Granny Smith apples, 1 kilogram

The juicer fought for a long time with apples cut into quarters, and a reverse was necessary in the process. When parsing, they still found one undigested quarter stuck in the screw.

The operating time of the device is 7 minutes 5 seconds. The weight of the juice obtained is 570 grams. Volume - 600 milliliters.

The juice is dark green, opaque, with a little foam. There is a lot of cake, quite noticeable system components of apples come across in it.

This fruit in the mode selection system for this model is designated as "average". But in fact, green apples of this variety are not much softer than carrots. Probably because of this, the device had such difficulties.

Verdict: satisfactory. Apparently, the squeezing of apples is not the fad of this model.

Carrots, 1 kilogram

We cut the peeled carrots, each fruit into several pieces, and began to spin in the “solid” mode. Here the model coped easily, almost jokingly.

Operating time - 3 minutes and 14 seconds. The weight of the juice obtained is 380 grams. Volume - 400 milliliters. This is a normal indicator for carrots, it is worth noting.

There is a lot of cake, it looks like finely divided pieces of the same size. The feeling that carrots were processed by some small scientific rodents. Juice of uniform color, almost without foam.

Verdict: excellent. Consumption, of course, is large, but for that it is carrots. Hands squeeze it through gauze is still more expensive. And the device clearly feels easy and pleasant with carrots.

White cabbage, 1 kilogram

We cleared the forks from the upper leaves and cut them into pieces. Here, the juicer was again on top.

Time - 4 minutes 10 seconds. The weight of the juice is 525 grams. Volume - 575 milliliters.

Juice of uniform color, without pulp, without foam. There is little cake, it is not too wet.

Verdict: excellent.

Celery

They took a thin, small in the number of stems top of celery, cleaned it of all the excess, cut and squeezed. The original product turned out to be only 100 grams, but 80 grams of juice came out of it. The perfect test. Oilcake - a few lost in the bowels of the bowl of the fiber separator.

Verdict: excellent.

Recipe from a recipe book: tomato juice with lemon

We take 4 tomatoes, 1 lemon, 1 clove of garlic, mix in the “mix” mode. The lemon hung a little in different parts of the structure, but then fell and wrung out in a satisfactory manner. Garlic came out of this mess almost untouched. We caught it and squeezed another with a garlic squeezer.

Verdict: tasty, but obviously not enough spicy sauce, such as Tabasco. Added tobasco. We tried it, I liked it. They added oranges, made sangrit, I liked it again. Good recipe.

Grater and Shredder

For these functions, the upper neck of the device is removed, the contents of the separator bowl are removed, and a sleeve is put in place on which the nozzle is put on.

We chopped and grated carrots. And with that, and with another device handled perfectly. Perfect mugs, even narrow strips, fast work, almost no marriage and extra waste. Nothing to complain about.

Verdict: excellent.

Conclusions

This model will clearly appeal to those who like, for example, carrot and celery juices. Both that and other raw materials behave rather capriciously at an extraction, and our experimental coped with these tests easily. Solid vegetables and fruits, fiber products, the slow auger grinds easily.

The model is very convenient to use: assembly-disassembly is quick, the filter is easily washed, there are self-cleaning functions (although this, in reality, is more likely a function of soaking) and protection against drops. The device takes up a lot of space, but mainly in height.

But the wide neck with such a gripping mechanism and throat design seemed to us a dubious idea. Inconvenient and fraught with interference during the spin cycle.

The average juice yield in grams according to the results of our tests was not high. However, it is worth repeating here that this device clearly copes well with everything solid and fibrous, and we conduct tests standard for all models. Many of our experimental colleagues are much better at grapefruits, but few ate celery so much that the amount of oilcake tends to be absent.

Additional functions (shredder and grater) proved to be ideal. The difficulties in such cases are usually where to store these parts of the device, but using such a grinding tool is a pleasure.
