The standard dimensions of interior doors must be known for the correct installation of the door in the opening. To date, no general standards have been established for manufacturers to comply with them. But there are building standards on the basis of which openings are made. From such indicators, the characteristics of the door will be determined.
Door Marking
With product labeling, everything is quite complicated. Of course, there are specific standardized designations for designations, but in some cases, common standards may change due to the abundance of manufacturers. It often happens that designs made by identical methods and outwardly similar constructions can be named and marked in different ways.
The dimensions of the door directly depend on the dimensions of the opening
First, we will deal with the standard GOST 6629-88, which applies to the manufacture of wooden interior doors for residential and public buildings. Based on the standard, the following markings are applied to products:
- Product type: P - cloth, D - prefabricated,
- Type of cloth: O - glazed, U - reinforced with continuous filling, K - swinging with glass,
- The width of the door structure with the box (dm). Additionally, the following symbols are indicated: P - product with a nut, N - with a weld, L - left-sided,
- Height (dm),
- Name of state standard.
In addition to complying with GOSTs, official model names, factory unique codes can be used..
Structures are classified according to several criteria:
- By placement in the facility - are internal (interior) and external (input),
- According to the material, metal, wood, glass products and combined options are distinguished,
- By filling the deaf panel there are glazed and deaf systems,
- According to the number of panels, single, one and a half and two-floor options are distinguished.

Standard sizes of swing interior doors
Considering the dimensions of the internal doors with the box, you should consider the height, width and weight of the parts. First, the opening is examined, into which the box with the canvas will be inserted. Therefore, the initial characteristics are slightly increased. To adjust the basic dimensions, you can use the bars, bricks or sheets of drywall.
Sizes of a cloth
If you do not apply non-standard approaches, where the dimensions of the opening for interior doors are tied to individual wishes, then the bulk of manufacturers are based on the indicators of the standard. The ratios of the indicators of the opening and door systems (panels and ducts) based on SNiP are indicated in the table:
№ | The indicators of the cloth, cm | Characteristics of the opening, cm
Width height | width | height
1 | 60*200 | 68-71 | 205-207 |
2 | 70*200 | 78-81 | 205-207 |
3 | 80*200 | 88-91 | 205-207 |
4 | 90*200 | 98-101 | 205-207 |
5 | 60*190 | 68-71 | 195-197 |
6 | 55*190 | 63-66 | 195-197 |
7 | 60+60*200 | 128-131 | 205-207 |
According to DIN standard, the ratio will be as follows:
№ | Door parameters, cm | Characteristics of the opening, cm
Width height | width | height
1 | 60*200 | 70-74 | 206-208 |
2 | 70*200 | 80-84 | 206-208 |
3 | 80*200 | 90-94 | 206-208 |
4 | 90*200 | 100-104 | 206-208 |
5 | 60+60*200 | 134-140 | 206-208 |
If we consider the parameters of any sliding and swing doors, each person provides for the width that he will use every day. But the state standard offers a door width for kitchens of 70 cm, bathrooms - 60 cm and residential facilities - 80 cm. On the market, designs for a bedroom are 90 cm wide, and for bathrooms - 55 cm.
Fig. 2. Characteristics of indoor canvas
It is worth mentioning about bivalve designs that allow you to emphasize the status of any room. Basically they consist of the same type (60 cm each) or various canvases (60 and 80 cm wide). Of the narrowed options, manufacturers offer designs with sash widths of 40 and 80 or 40 and 40 centimeters.
The more common width of the paintings is 35 - 40 cm, but the indicator can vary up or down (based on the material used and the type of product). For example, the thickness of a sliding sash can be 2 cm, and wooden canvases can reach up to 50 cm.
In terms of height, manufacturers offer products of 190 and 200 cm, but there are also European standards - 210 cm. On request, customers can purchase products of greater height (up to the ceiling or 2.3 m). Often, designers adhere to foreign standards.
Fig. 3. The main characteristics of the doors
Box sizes
Ready-made options are on sale (with a box and accessories). This is a U-shaped design, which is placed around the perimeter of the opening. The system allows you to securely fix the panel.
The total height and width of the web with the box increases by 10-15 cm, but a gap should be left between the wall and the mounting point, so the parameters of the cloth should be less than the characteristics of the frame (to protect against abrasion). The thickness of the panel is compared with the size of the wall and box. Correctly mounted doors will be comfortable, organically look indoors, meet the standards used.
Based on the characteristics of the panel, for interior structures, indicators of the standard dimensions of the door frame of the interior door may vary. Therefore, it is desirable to purchase designs along with casing, frame and fittings.
For the manufacture of boxes used bars of various parameters. The width of the material can reach 1.5-4.0 cm, but the optimal figure is 3.0-3.5 cm. If you comply with the standards, you get a reliable design that lasts a long time.
Fig. 4. Dimensions of door frames
The thickness of the box and the wall should match, but this indicator should not exceed the width of the opening. For wooden walls, the criterion is 10 cm, and for brick - 7.5 cm. Therefore, a box whose dimensions exceed the wall parameters cannot be firmly fixed. Otherwise, you can use special add-ons.
When manually assembling the box, the parameters of the vertical posts must be determined in accordance with the height of the panel, the thickness of the horizontal bar, the dimensions of the gap and threshold. The parameters of the horizontal bar are calculated according to the width of the door.
Aperture sizes
When creating partitions and walls, you can determine the width of the opening according to the standard, where the parameters of products with a frame and accessories are indicated. At the same time, the width of the panel is folded with a double indicator of the frame and a bilateral clearance. As a rule, it is 1.5 cm. For example, 90.0 + 3.0 * 2 + 1.5 * 2 = 99.0 cm.
The height of the opening is also calculated: without a nut, it will be 200 + 3 + 1.5 + 0.5 = 205 (0.5 is the distance between the panel and the floor for air exchange, it can increase up to 1 cm, and for a house with liquefied gas - up to 1.5-2 cm). If there is a nut, the height of the opening is determined by adding up the size of the opening and the web parameters, the width of the mounting seam and the box.
Fig. 5. Measurement of openings
The thicker the canvas, the better?
Thick canvases well emphasize the design of the living room, made in the Baroque, Renaissance or Empire style, and movable partitions and thin screens will complement the openings of wardrobes and pantries. With increasing thickness of the door, its mass increases, which increases the requirements for hinged fittings. Additional hinges may be required, which will increase the cost of construction. Therefore, the canvas should be selected for massiveness and other characteristics according to the feasibility, optimality.
There are many products on the market with leaf thicknesses of 30–40 cm. But the assortment has thinner sliding MDF partitions (about 2 cm). Tempered glass constructions from 8 mm thick have recently become popular.
Standard sizes of interior doors with a box
When choosing interior doors. the main thing you need to pay attention to is their size. Indeed, in order to fulfill their functions, they must clearly stand in the opening, or in other words, have suitable parameters for width, height and thickness. The unified set standards that all manufacturers must adhere to are not defined. But there are building codes on the basis of which doorways are made. Therefore, the width, height and thickness of the door directly depends on these indicators for the doorway.
Double doors
The above values apply to single-leaf structures. Double-leaf interior doors are often installed at the entrance to the living room. Their standard widths range from 1 to 1.4 meters. At the same time, double-leaf types of doors can have different or identical sizes of individual halves. For example, a product with a width of 1400 mm may consist of two parts of 700 mm or one 600, and the second 800 mm.
Doors with hidden box
Interior doors with a hidden frame have several advantages over ordinary ones. But the price of such structures is much higher. The same applies to the requirements for the size of the finished opening.
The dimensions of the opening must strictly comply with the requirements of the door manufacturer. The wall should be flat vertically. Only 1 mm deviation per meter height is allowed. Wall thickness should not exceed 80 mm. The optimal width of the mounting gap is 17-20 mm plus / minus 10 mm. In some models of products with a hidden box, deviations are not allowed at all. The clearance under the web should ideally be 4.
Custom Doors
The variety of dimensions of interior doors with a box and accessories offered by manufacturers is very large. But, despite this, situations are often encountered where none of the manufactured sizes fits into an existing opening. In this case, you can either adjust it so that the width and height decrease or increase to the desired, or order doors of non-standard parameters.
Custom-made doors are much more expensive than buying finished products. But such a step will allow to realize non-standard ideas.
The size of the door frame of the interior door: standards, calculation example
Before you start decorating the floor and walls, you should not forget that in any case you will have to install such an important element of any interior as an interior door. In order not to be in a situation where you have to modify the wall decoration, or wait for the manufacture of non-standard interior doors to order (and they cost almost one and a half times more expensive than standard ones), you need to immediately determine the size of the door frame of the interior door that suits you.
What can be the standards?
To begin with, one should assess the state of the market for the variety of interior doors presented, as well as their manufacturers. Domestic and imported interior doors for the most part have standard sizes: with widths of 60 cm, 70 cm or 80 cm, the height is 200 cm. Sometimes there are manufacturers offering 55 cm or 90 cm widths at a height of 190 cm as a standard. The thickness of the boxes themselves for doors can vary between 15-40 mm. These data will be very important when it comes time to determine the size of the door frame of the interior door. If you did not pay due attention to these parameters when buying, then you can easily encounter an unpleasant situation when the door block simply does not fit in the opening in the load-bearing wall. This will require an expansion of the opening, which is far from always possible fundamentally due to the layout of the apartment or the design features of the bearing walls.
How to determine the size of the doorway
In order to do this, it is necessary to clarify some dimensions and decide whether a wooden threshold is required. It is necessary to determine:
- Desired height and width of the door leaf.
- The width and thickness of the door frame used.
- The width of the wooden platbands.
Calculation Example
Suppose that a door leaf with a size of 80x200 cm with a box 2.5 cm thick is selected. To calculate the door opening, add to the door width the thickness of the box located on both sides of the door leaf, not forgetting the mounting gap between them, as well as the door block and the door aperture (on each side, one and a half to two centimeters). Adding these values, we get 88 cm, which will be almost the ideal width of the doorway, which will fit most of the doors offered by manufacturers.
The height is calculated similarly, taking into account the height of the threshold of one to two centimeters. For doors without a threshold, a height of 205 cm is obtained, and with a threshold - 208 cm. This height is also ideal, and most door frames produced will enter this opening. It turns out that with a canvas size of 80x200 cm, an opening of 88x208 cm is required.
In typical houses, the thickness of the doorway is 7.5 cm. Therefore, most of the boxes sold are of such a thickness that should be considered when preparing the opening. If due to the larger or smaller wall thickness it is not possible to maintain this size, then it becomes necessary to mount the box expander (slope or extension), longitudinal cutting of the boxes is also possible in the presence of a thin wall.

Interior doors: dimensions with a box. Dimensions of door frames of interior doors
When building a house or repairing an existing building, one has to either arrange an entrance opening in accordance with a door model selected in advance, or order and assemble new paintings in those that already exist. In both cases, it is important to know how large are the entrances and interior doors (dimensions with and without a frame).
Let's define concepts
A door is called an opening in the wall, which is intended for installation (installation) of the input unit. It can be external or internal (interroom). The so-called box for the door is its fixed part, fixed in the opening. The canvas is attached to it by means of loops.
When calculating the size of any opening, you need to know the dimensions of the door frames of the interior doors, i.e., their height and width, the dimensions of the platbands. You will also have to consider the thickness of the box and the presence of a threshold. In the calculation, it will be necessary to add the dimensions of the box to the width of the canvas on both sides, as well as provide for the gap necessary for installation between it and the wall panel. Usually it is from 15 to 30 mm.
The standard heights of doorways are 2100 and 2400 mm. And their width can be from 700 to 1900 mm, and those of them whose width does not exceed 1200 mm are intended for single-leaf doors, and wider - for double-leaf. There are, in addition, the so-called. one and a half doors - having two wings of different widths.
How to measure a doorway
The width of the opening is measured in its narrowest part, most often at the top. For greater accuracy, it is recommended to measure it in three different places. Height - from the floor to the top of the opening at the lowest point. If such a drop point is not found in the eye, it is worth measuring twice - on the right and left. The depth of the box is set by measuring the width of all slopes in at least three places.
For quality work, it is best to call a professional meter. This service is provided by most companies that supply and install doors. If you measure yourself, if you submit inaccurate data, you will have to pay for the return of the door that does not fit in the warehouse and the delivery of a new one. In the case of a call of a professional, the manufacturer takes all the risk.
How not to get into trouble
In order not to be in a situation where the dimensions of the boxes do not correspond to the openings, you should accurately determine your parameters. Most doors of various manufacturers have a universal size - width 60, 70 or 80 centimeters at a height of 2 m. Some manufacturers use the standard combination of a height of 190 cm with a width of 55 cm.The thickness of the boxes usually varies from 15 to 40 mm.
If an unsuccessfully sized door unit does not fit into the opening, the latter will have to be expanded. Sometimes this is not possible due to the particular layout. In this case, the only way out is to order a custom-sized door, which is economically unprofitable. As a rule, the cost of such non-standard blocks is 30-50 percent more expensive than usual.
When the door does not fit the opening, it is impossible to change its dimensions in most cases. An exception - designs with sliding cloths. They are sold with a set of parts, allowing you to set the desired size of the guides, and the height of the canvases can be slightly reduced with a small hacksaw or jigsaw. The width is adjusted by the degree of web tension.
When the changes are coming
It happens that the opening is slightly wider than the purchased door, then it will require narrowing, which will also take a lot of effort and money. In addition to the need to build up walls on both sides of the canvas, a situation may arise when the platband does not completely overlap the space between the panel and the box. In this case, an additional amount of work is to be done on wallpapering or reporting tiles. And most often it will have to be carried out independently, since finding a master on such a meager front of work is not easy.
In addition, remember the thickness of the walls. In standard houses, this is 750 mm, and most manufacturers try to make door frames of the appropriate size. If the thickness of the panel and the input unit does not match, you may need to either expand the box (in the form of extension or slope), or saw off in the shared direction. Without such refinement, the installation of the casing is impossible, which drops the appearance of the structure.
When the thickness of the walls around the entire perimeter of the opening is the same (this is established by repeated measurement at several control points), it makes sense to order a door according to individual dimensions. If the spread in measurements is from 3 to 30 mm, then it is still better to make an extension, which is then cut not in a straight line, but taking into account the curvature of the walls.
If after installing the door there is a change in the flooring, the unpleasant need to “trim” the door can be “drawn” from the bottom - because new boards are much thicker than the old linoleum. Such work is qualitatively able to perform only a professional.
Sliding doors
In recent years, the popularity of sliding doors has increased dramatically. They are original and comfortable, allow you to save space in small apartments and decorate the interior of large rooms. Sliding interior doors are single and double. The former are often used in small rooms, when opened, they are shifted to the side. Installation is quite easy, without installing a door frame.
The second (i.e., bivalve) - wide, comfortable and bearing a decorative function. They are placed in spacious rooms and consist, as a rule, of two halves.
Their dimensions in height - from 2 meters, in width - 1-1.8 meters, you can select other parameters.
Sliding interior doors can be glass, folding type "accordion" (from different materials, from aluminum to wood), type "compartment" or "pencil case", as well as a system of sliding partitions.

GOST requirements for standard doorways
The dimensions of the interior door (door block) must strictly correspond to the dimensions of the opening in the wall between the rooms. In fact, in the building standards and state standards, it is precisely the opening parameters that are prescribed. And in accordance with them it is already necessary to select the thickness and width with height for the door frame and the door leaf inside.
If you create a unique designer interior in a private house, then the doors to the rooms can be made any way you want. It is only necessary at the stage of preparation for the project to provide openings in partitions and load-bearing walls of the required size. But then door products will have to be ordered by individual parameters for a lot of money than standard options.
Creating an exclusive interior, do not forget that the door can complement the style, if you approach the issue correctly
With urban apartments, the situation is fundamentally different. All of them are built according to standard design solutions, in which openings for interior doors were initially laid under standard sizes. And in the vast majority of cases, expanding this hole is prohibited. It remains to select the door structure only for existing realities. And knowing the requirements of GOST, the choice of a door in a store will be simpler and more error-free.
What is the design of doors
Marking interior doors
Choosing an electric generator or a submersible pump for dirty water, you have to carefully study the many parameters in the data sheet for this technique. The power of the unit, productivity, and other values are important there. With the inner door, everything is much simpler. In the accompanying documentation, it indicates a set of numbers and letters that fully describe the width and height, as well as the design features of the product.
By design and method of opening, door blocks are divided into several main types:
- "G" is a dull wooden canvas.
- "O" - a cloth with an insert of glass.
- "Rn" or "Rl" - hinged right or left door.
- "K" or "P" - swinging or sliding design.
Options for the design of interior doors
In addition to these letters, the markings also indicate:
- type of product - the door block to the entrance to the apartment ("DV"), interior ("DM") and for the bathroom ("DS"),
- the width and height of the opening - two digits in decimeters,
- the number of paintings in the block,
- class of air permeability ("B1", "B2" or "B3") and strength ("MD1", "MD2", "MD3" or "MD4"),
- designation of the standard "GOST 475–2016" (introduced instead of the old GOST 6629-88).
In the above normative there is a table where standard sizes of interior doors are registered. More precisely, reference dimensions of the openings in the walls and partitions are indicated there. It is from these sizes that manufacturers of door blocks are repelled. According to them, the opening height can be 1870, 2070 or 2370 mm, and the width is from 710 to 1950 mm.

Sizes and thickness of a cloth
The width and height of the door leaf are usually made 70 mm smaller than the dimensions of the door along the outer perimeter. 30–35 mm on each side goes to the box (frame). But there may be other options that are far from these standard values. Manufacturers are free to choose the dimensions of the product parts themselves in accordance with the design and materials from which it is made.
Building standards recommended the following dimensions of interior doors with a box along the width of the opened canvas:
- for the kitchen - 70 cm,
- for a bedroom and other rooms - 80 cm,
- for the living room - a 120 cm bivalve model,
- for the bathroom - 60 cm.
Typical dimensions of interior doors for different rooms
In all cases, the standard height is assumed to be in the range of 1800–2000 mm, and the web thickness is 30–40 mm. At the same time, it is recommended to install the doors in the bathroom or the bathroom a little thicker and with a more moisture-resistant coating than in ordinary rooms.
How to measure the height for doors with a threshold
Standard box sizes
The width of the box should ideally match the thickness of the wall. If the door is thicker than the interior partition, it will be difficult to fix it in the opening. Plus, on the sides there will remain ugly gaps under the clypeus. In the opposite situation, when the wall is too thick, it will be necessary to put additional additional elements (extras).
The design of interior doors with additional
What is a door frame?
The box is part of the door block. It is used in swing type models; a sash is hung on it for hinges. Install the pipe of the entrance or interior door in the opening on the wall. Most popular the material for the manufacture of boxes is considered an array. Cheaper option - MDF and other combinations of wood waste. Ludks can have grooves at the end for fixing platbands and extensions.
The hidden door frame is hidden during installation in the wall; it is made of aluminum. Even the loops remain invisible.
The device of the door frame involves the use of three or four elements. U-shaped muds without a threshold consist of two racks connected at the top by a cross-beam. In a full-fledged ore, the fourth element is the threshold. Such frames are required when installing the door unit in the bathroom or at the entrance to the room.
Boxes are usually sold as a kit with extras and platbands. Additional elements help to refine the doorway. Device Ludka differs in the following ways:
- with or without extras,
- with telescopic platbands or slats without grooves,
- with or without seal,
- with invoice or mortise fittings.
Convenient in installation and use is considered a box with telescopic platbands, as well as equipped with a sealant.
Box sizes
The consumer is offered different sizes of door frames, which is due to the place of their installation. Dimensions are met by standard. For manufacturers from different countries, it is different. The most common standard size of the door frame of interior doors of a domestic manufacturer coincides with products from Finland, Italy and several other European countries.
By standard size is:
- leaf width - 55, 60, 70, 80 and 90 cm,
- sash height - 190, 200 and 210 cm,
- box thickness - from 2 to 7.5 cm.
This thickness of the door frame of the interior door is determined for a reason. The size difference is due to different wall parameters.
Considered optimal depth the door frame of the interior door is 7.5 cm. The boat is suitable for walls made of gypsum board or brick. For thick partitions, boxes with a width of 10 cm are produced from another material. There are imported muds up to 20.5 cm deep.
The total height and width of the door frame of the interior door is determined taking into account the size of the sash. The thickness of the boat is added to the dimensions of the canvas. It will be more clear on an example. Take a panel of 60 * 200 cm and a box with a thickness of 7.5 cm. As a result of the calculations, the total width of the door with the box is 67.5 cm and the height is 207.5 cm.
Determine the dimensions of the box of interior doors will help the size chart.
Types of boxes
The types of door frames differ in design, material and other parameters. A three-element or four-element pool has the following connection methods racks with a cross-beam:
- Shipovaya. The joining of the beam of the door frame occurs with a thorn-groove lock. The method is complex, but reliable.
- Baguette. The edges of the beam are cut at an angle of 45º. Connection of elements is carried out by hardware.
- Right angle. Before joining at an angle of 90 °, grooves are cut out at the end of the beam, removing part of the quarter.
Of all the options, the design of the door frame with a right angle is considered simple.
The device is different by type of attachment of extensions and platbands:
- Simple goes without grooves. Extras and platbands are fixed with glue, nails or self-tapping screws.
- Telescopic the box for the door is equipped with special grooves in which the extensions and platbands are attached.
- Monoblock. Innovative design. Box and platbands constitute one whole.
The advantage of a monoblock telescopic box is a complete set. Separately, you do not have to buy dobors and platbands.
By design there are three types of ore:
- Embracing. The design consists of a frame, extensions and platbands. Door frame with seal is supplied. In cheap options, there may be no extras. Planks will have to be bought separately.
- End face. The boat is designed for installation on a special metal frame. It is used in the arrangement of openings of thin walls made of drywall.
- Corner Ludka is considered universal. Frame with platband connected in a single design. A seal is required during installation.
Separately, it is worth considering a hidden door frame, completely hidden together with hinges in the wall during installation. The whole block is made of aluminum and comes in two types:
- Finished box. The leaf has a laminated, enameled or other coating. Installation of mirrors is allowed.
- Finishing boat. The canvas is covered with a primer layer. After installing the unit, it is subjected to further wallpapering, dyeing or lining with other materials.
Sash handles are also made hidden. Usually it is a slot on the canvas or a magnetic device.
Materials
Ludki differ in the material of manufacture:
- The most common, inexpensive and durable are considered wooden door frames. Products from raw timber during installation are impregnated with an antiseptic, open with varnish or paint. For a budget option, boxes are used solid pine. Manufacturing Technology spliced timber allows you to get rid of wood defects. Frame elements are glued from small blanks.
- Door frames are made by pressing wood waste. MDF, Fibreboard and HDF. Frames are covered with laminate, veneer and other materials that protect the product from moisture, as well as giving it attractiveness. Layered composites have excellent characteristics. The material alternates layers of wood waste with plastic.
- Special aluminum box for glass door comes with a gasket and a set of corners. The glass is installed in the glass openings of offices and other organizations. Fixation takes place with pressure plates on the guzhon.
Metal door blocks usually come with gaskets, platbands and fittings. Install products at the entrance to the building or individual rooms of the organization.
How many accessories are needed for the opening?
When installing the door unit, you will definitely need accessories. An aluminum door frame comes on sale with mounting plates, a seal, a set of corners.
When buying a scaffold for an interior door, a design is selected taking into account the installation location. Frames with a threshold are put in the bathroom, at the entrance or, if the opening height is required (3 blanks will be required for one door). A U-shaped box is mounted in ordinary interior partitions (2.5 blanks are needed for one door).
The number of platbands is calculated according to the need for framing. Two and a half slats 2 m long are needed on one side. 5 platbands are bought for facing two sides.
If the door frame is narrow, the protrusions of a thick wall are covered with extensions. The number of boards is calculated by the size of the protrusion.
From the fittings, loops will be needed. 2 elements are enough for a light sash, and 3 pieces can be put for a heavy sash.Overhead or hidden hinges are placed on the doorframe without a quarter. By design, they are one-piece.
A lock and a peephole are installed on the front door. Although, the last element is optional. Each leaf is equipped with two handles, and a latch is attached to the door leaf.
One and a half and double doors
The double swing doors with two wings will look effective in the design. The width of the products depends on the model and parameters of the passage of the living room. The parameters for such doors are sometimes taken with an increase of 1.5-2.
The standard sizes for double systems with a box are 120-150 cm. This allows you to put full-fledged double-leaf structures. The width of double doors is 1-1.4 m.
With minimal dimensions, double doors can be offered with one fixed leaf with a width of ½ or 1/3 of the standard value (for example, one and a half options). The other part of the canvas will be full. With the optimum width of the opening, the same wings are placed, which increases the aesthetics and patency of people.
How to measure the opening
If the door has a door sill, the length of the opening can be calculated by summing the height of the threshold with the parameters of the panel, duct and mounting seam.
Fig. 8. Definition of indicators with and without a nut
According to standards, it is easy to know the width of the panel. For a 90-centimeter opening, a canvas 80 cm wide is suitable. This can be calculated as follows: 90-15 * 2-30 * 2 = 81 cm, and excess centimeters will be masked by platbands.
When determining the dimensions, it is better to take into account the gap that will remain between the panel and the box. But this figure is 1-2 millimeters, so with approximate calculations it can be ignored.

Examples of calculating the proportionality of door frames and walkways into the premises
In order to correctly calculate the dimensions of the door, it is necessary to measure the opening in several places with a tape measure and select the minimum number in width and height. Just before you measure anything, you should completely clear the end of the wall from any construction debris.
Necessary measurements for door leaf installation
Conclusion
It is not difficult to choose interior doors. Most of them are made according to the standard sizes prescribed in GOSTs. The main thing when measuring the opening is to be as attentive as possible without taking an oversized model. Voids up to 5 cm between the box and the wall during installation can be closed with a platband. But if the block turns out to be too wide or high, then it will definitely have to be changed.
How to measure the door leaf and opening
A set of doors consists of a canvas, one or two, if the system is double-winged. They can be with a narthex or without it. In addition, there is also a box, it is also called loot, platbands and additional elements. For a quality installation of the structure, a hole in the wall is necessary. It is called the opening.
Types of openings
- Door clearance. The free space remaining after opening the canvas.
- Building aperture. The hole in the wall into which the box is inserted.
Thus, the clearance is less than the building opening and less than the loot (door frame). The latter should not be selected exactly according to the parameters of the mounting hole. It has smaller dimensions, because for a strictly vertical installation of the structure, free space is needed to correct possible unevenness of the walls and floor. In addition, products from different manufacturers may have slight dimensional differences, which will require adjustment during installation.
There must be room for seasonal squeezes and wall extensions. This is a small distance, not more than 0.15-0.2 cm. If it is not there, the door may jam, rub the jamb, etc. To determine the size of interior doors with a box according to the standard, measurements of the building opening are taken.
Measurement of a building aperture
- We measure the distance between the two sides of the hole horizontally at several points. At least below, in the middle and above.
- We measure the distance from the floor to the top of the aisle vertically in the left and right corner, in the middle.
From the obtained values, the smallest are selected. They are used to select the block.
Measurement rules for replacing an old door with a new one
When choosing an interior design instead of the old one, measurements are carried out with particular care. The fact is that budget models are made of chipboards, unlike an array, they cannot be adjusted, because the boards processed at the ends when stripping are exposed expose the core. It is not protected from moisture, when water or high humidity enters, it immediately swells, which irreparably spoils the panel.
If you choose a model where the elements of the box are assembled independently, it is advisable to measure them before purchase. Small tolerances in height and width are possible, but they should not be more than 1 cm. Otherwise, the system will not fit in the mounting hole and will have to be increased. In the case of already finished rooms, this will result in significant additional costs, especially if you have to increase the opening, tiled, for example, in the bathroom.
GOST Standards
Existing construction GOSTs provide for four door sizes.
- For general-purpose living rooms (bedroom, nursery, etc.) 800x2000 mm.
- For bathrooms 550-600x2000 mm.
- For kitchens 700x1900-2000 mm.
- For living rooms 1300x2000 mm.
In the latter case, bivalve systems are meant. For single-door, the norms of residential premises apply.
Height
According to GOSTs, the average construction height (200 cm) depends on the distance from the floor to the ceiling. But the standards have been in force since 1988, since then the ceiling has become a little higher. Therefore, European models have become more attractive to users, their height is 210 cm.
Width
The width of the door frame ideally matches the thickness of the wall. In this case, during installation, no additional elements will be needed. Worst of all, if the wall is already box. Then it is very difficult to securely fix it. Another minus is the ugly gaps between the platband and the wall plane. If the box is already openings, additional elements are used. They close the inner space left unclosed.
Size Chart
To facilitate the selection process, we offer a table of sizes of interior doors with a box.
Canvas height / width, mm | Box block height / width, mm | Recommended opening height / width, mm |
1880x550 | 1923x615 | 1935x635 |
1900x600 | 1943x665 | 1955x685 |

2100x900 | 2143x965 | 2155x985 |
The bottom four lines in the table describe the European standard models.
The choice of standard models greatly facilitates repair and construction work. Replacing some typical designs with others involves the installation of minimal complexity and low costs. While the choice of systems with individual parameters complicates the installation and subsequent possible replacement of the product. Their price will also be much higher.
What other dimensions should be considered during installation
The general view of the structure, including the entrance metal door, depends on the observance of simple rules.
- The mounting hole for the box should be about 10 cm wider than the groove. In extreme cases, it can be narrowed. This is much easier than expanding, and after installing the platbands, nothing will be noticeable.
- Adjacent opening space to an adjacent wall is prohibited. The distance should be at least 10 cm.
- Voids under the platbands are formed when the depth of the hole does not match the thickness of the mouth and when the wall is uneven. The latter needs to be fixed before the start of installation work.
- The thickness of the casing is not more than 0.8 cm, so the distance from the wall to the floor should not be more.
