Drywall, which has gained considerable popularity in the Russian market of finishing building materials, is produced by a number of manufacturers. The brands “KNAUF”, “Giprok”, “Lafarge”, “Rigips”, “Belgips” and others are widely known. Among the manufacturers - the company "VOLMA", formed on the basis of the Volgograd gypsum plant with a network of branches. In terms of sales, GKL VOLMA ranks second in Russia, second only to Knauf products.
Range
The company "VOLMA" produces the following types of drywall:
- standard GCR,
- moisture resistant GKLV (water absorption no more than 5%),
- fireproof GKLO (minimum resistance time to open fire - 20 minutes),
- moisture-proof fire-resistant GKLVO (combines the properties of moisture-proof and fire-resistant drywall).
Sheets of all types have the same standard sizes (in mm):
- length - 2500,
- width - 1200,
- thickness: GKL and GKLVO - 9.5 and 12.5, GKLO and GKLVO - 12.5.
At the request of the customer, the company can produce sheets with a length of 3000 mm, which are used for wall decoration and the construction of partitions in rooms with high ceilings. The thickness of these sheets is 12.5 mm.
Description and marking
The VOLMA gypsum board is made with a thinned edge, thanks to which the joint of the sheets after the puttying works becomes invisible. The shape of the ends is rectangular, the surface of the sheet is perfectly flat.

Application
In terms of application, GKL “VOLMA” does not have any special differences from drywall of other brands.
Attention mainly should be paid to the need to make a deeper incision, otherwise a break will result in an uneven edge.
Joint sealing is recommended only with putty for joints, since it does not shrink. When using the finishing putty in the future, the formation of a recess is possible.
Reviews
Reviews about VOLMA plasterboard sheets are rather contradictory, some buyers are not satisfied with the quality. The main complaints come on a wavy surface, which has to be carefully plastered and putty, and more weight. At the same time, many people believe that the roughness of the sheets is a consequence of improper storage in the storehouse's warehouse, and, on the whole, the VOLMA drywall is not inferior to the products of the main competitor, KNAUF, and it is also cheaper.
Features
GKL Volma is used in rooms for various purposes with wet and dry microclimate. Its advantages are lightness, strength, durability, stability of characteristics, environmental safety, maintainability.
The longitudinal edge of the gypsum plaster is thinned, the joint when putty is invisible. The end edge is rectangular. Sheets have impeccable geometry, perfectly flat surface.
They are mounted on a wall or ceiling using a frame made of wood or metal, or in a frameless way - with VOLMA-Montage glue. The quality of products is not inferior to European and world analogues.

Selection Tips and Tricks
In the kitchen and bathroom, buy GKLV (moisture-proof drywall). In other rooms - standard GKL. The presence of additives in the composition increases the cost of the material. Since the microclimate is normal in the rooms, there is no need to overpay. Before buying drywall, ask the seller to show you the necessary certificates.
Inspect the room where the decoration material is stored. Make sure the climate is favorable. Buy goods in large retail chains. Use the thinnest sheets to create niches, arches, the formation of various designs on the ceiling. Sheets from a thickness of 12.5 mm go both to the ceiling and to the wall.
Benefits
High-quality drywall “Volma” has the following positive characteristics:
- is fireproof
- can only be destroyed after six hours of constant heating,
- GKL sheets have a dense monolithic structure due to the gypsum core,
- the relative ease of the slabs is noted - this greatly facilitates the work of builders,
- optimum vapor permeability allows laying sheets on different bases,
- hydrophobic additives reduce the level of liquid absorption by 5%,
- the material is considered safe and environmentally friendly, as evidenced by a certificate of quality and positive feedback from specialists and ordinary users.
The scope of this product is quite large. due to its ductility and low weight, therefore, it is used as the basis for wallpaper, ceramic tile, decorative types of plaster.
Installation work involves fixing drywall to wood frames and metal profiles using self-tapping screws. In addition, GKL sheets using another technology can be fixed on special gypsum adhesive.
Moisture resistant
This material is a rectangular plate, consisting of two layers of cardboard with gypsum filling, reinforcing additives and water repellents from getting wet. The standard sheet parameters are 2500x1200x9.5 mm. Their weight is up to 7 kg. Plates with parameters 2500x1200x12.5mm weigh about 35 kg, however, it is possible to order material of a different length (from 2700 to 3500 mm).
Sheets 9.5 mm thick are usually used to decorate ceilings in the kitchen, in the bathroom, and in the bathroom. A prerequisite is the presence of a ventilation system. It is also possible to use for curved planes - GKL "Volma" is quite flexible and plastic, but you should know that they can be bent only in length. Self-tapping screws are perfect for fasteners, as they do not crack the product.
When assembling a structure on a frame, it is necessary to take into account some subtleties of installation:
- work is not recommended if the room temperature is below 10 degrees,
- drywall can be installed only upon completion of the equipping of plumbing equipment and water supply, after complete drying of the surfaces,
- GKL should be cut using a conventional construction knife,
- fixing with self-tapping screws is carried out without exceeding a distance of 250 mm. At the same time, the screw should go into the metal parts of the frame by 10 mm, and for subsequent putty, be recessed in plasterboard by at least 1 mm.
Moisture-resistant drywall is a dense and relatively inexpensive material that has a good margin of safety, which is crucial for the consumer.
The disadvantages of Volma products include the absence of markings, as well as the undulation of the surfaces of the sheets.
Fire resistant
This type of drywall is suitable for interior decorating with walls and ceilings in conditions of increased fire safety requirements. The thickness of the panels is 12.5 mm with a length of 2500 mm and a width of 1200 mm. Such sheets are characterized by increased strength and reliability characteristics, and the composition of two gypsum layers includes flame retardant additives (fiberglass).
Special impregnation can prevent firetherefore, the cardboard layer is subject to carbonization, while the gypsum remains intact.
The advantages of the material are:
- lack of toxic substances in the composition,
- relatively small mass
- soundproofing properties of panels.
Fireproof Volma boards are gray or pink with red marking. Installation is practically no different from the assembly of ordinary drywall, but at the same time the material is easily cut and drilled, does not crumble during operation.
Panels can serve as the basis for further cladding of walls and ceilings:
- plaster
- different types of paints
- paper wallpaper
- porcelain and ceramic tiles.
Fire resistant
Fire-resistant material from the manufacturer "Volma" has increased resistance to open fire. Such panels are suitable for wall cladding and ceiling structures. They have standard sizes - 2500x1200x12.5mm. These are coatings that are ideal for living rooms, as they have the necessary technical specifications for home use.
This type of product is intended for rooms with dry and medium wet conditions. It is low combustible (G1), low toxic, has no more than B2 flammability.
The structure of the panels is similar to other Volma products - a gypsum two-layer middle with special refractory components, glued from above and below with multilayer cardboard with a thinned edge. In accordance with GOST 6266-97, the sheets have tolerances of up to 5 mm in basic parameters.
New items
At the moment, the manufacturing company has developed new materials TU 5742-004-78667917-2005, providing for:
- high strength parameters of the product,
- its level of water absorption,
- vapor permeability
- special surface density.
Thanks to these characteristics, fire-resistant gypsum board can be used as widely as possible in construction and repair work.
For this reason, the Volma material is on a par with foreign counterparts. and is one of the most popular in the main categories. When using it, it is important to remember that the panels are installed under the conditions of heating systems (in cold weather), after the installation of the plumbing, electrical system, and also before the erection of the finished floors (at a temperature of at least +10 degrees). Only in this way can a quality assembly of gypsum boards be ensured.

Material characteristics
Finishing gypsum board manufactured by Volma Corporation (Volgograd), in its composition practically does not differ from gypsum board of all other brands:
Volma Corporation Logo
- The basis of drywall is from natural gypsum. Gypsum is first ground in special mills, and then fired at a temperature of about 180-2000C.
- Above and below, the gypsum board is covered with a multilayer protective board. The lateral edges of the cardboard are bent, reliably protecting the edges of the plate from chipping.
- Depending on the type of material, Volma Hyproc may contain additional components such as starch, fiberglass, cellulose fiber, hydrophobic impregnation, antifungal compounds, etc.
According to the information provided by the material manufacturer on the corporate website, Volma products are intended for wall cladding, installation of suspended ceilings and interior partitions from gypsum plasterboard, as well as for the manufacture of other interior elements.
Note!
Installation instructions GKL Volma recommends using special profiles and fasteners from the same manufacturer.
However, as practice shows, compliance with this recommendation is desirable, but not necessary.
Hyperproduct Nomenclature
Under the Volma trademark gypsum boards for interior work of several varieties are produced.
The most popular are:
- Volma-list - standard drywall (GKL) with dimensions of 1200 x 2500 mm. The thickness of the plates is 9.5 and 12.5 mm.This drywall is used for cladding walls and ceilings in rooms with normal temperature and humidity, the characteristics of the material comply with the requirements of GOST. The appearance of the gyro is shown in the photo.
- "Volma Moisture Resistant" - GKLV. The dimensions of the plate are 1200 x 2500 mm. Thickness 9.5 and 12.5 mm. This type of hyperpro is used to align the walls and ceilings of rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.
- Experts also recommend the use of moisture-resistant gyroc when plating unheated rooms - country houses, outbuildings, etc.
- "Volma Three-meter" - GKL with dimensions of 1200 x 3000 mm. Giprock of this type is produced by special order and is used for facing rooms with a large area. The use of large-sized panels can significantly save time on leveling the walls of the room.
As you can see, the assortment is quite extensive, although inferior to the variety of brands of gyproc from leading manufacturers.
As for quality, here we can unequivocally answer the question asked at the beginning of our article, “Which plasterboard is better - Knauf or Volma?” pretty hard. The thing is that the bulk of Knauf drywall, so respected by our craftsmen, is produced at domestic enterprises.
And therefore, talking about the superiority of one brand over another only on the basis of the place of manufacture will be unreasonable.
Well, if you analyze the reviews of most masters who were able to compare both brands, then Volma is practically not inferior to KNAUF in quality. Taking into account the fact that the price of Volgograd products is slightly lower, we can safely recommend this gyro to use.
Additional components
In addition to the drywall itself, under the Volma brand, additional components are also produced that are designed to facilitate the installation of drywall and its subsequent decoration:
- Galvanized profile. It is used for the assembly of frames for cladding walls and ceilings GKL. Unfortunately, the assortment line of profiles is not very diverse, so a situation may arise in which you have to buy a start or rack profile of another manufacturer.
- Glue for drywall. It is used for frameless installation of gypsum plaster on walls, provides high-quality adhesion to almost any surface.
- "Volma-seam" - putty for sealing joints between sheets of gypsum plaster. It is characterized by high ductility, low coefficient of shrinkage, does not contain toxic substances.
Mix for grouting
Note!
Putty manufacturers recommend using it together with serpentine tape or construction paper tape (also presented in the catalog on the company's website).
- Finishing putty. It is used for the final leveling of the surface sheathed with plasterboard sheets.
It can be used both for painting and for wallpapering. It is characterized by high hiding power and good adhesion.
In addition to all of the above, when installing the Volma drywall, you can use specially designed fasteners from the same company.
Installation of GKL "Volma"
The installation process of gypsum boards from this manufacturer is carried out according to the traditional scheme:
- First, the old finish is removed from the walls of the room, all the protruding elements (shelves, brackets, hangers, etc.) are dismantled.
- Then, with the help of a level, a tape measure and a measuring cord, we mark up. Marking is necessary, because without it there is a risk of installing the frame at an angle, which negatively affects its strength.
Lathing on the wall
- By marking, we mount a galvanized metal profile on the walls, forming a crate. How to assemble a wireframe is shown in the video posted on our website.
- To the finished crate we apply the GKL Volma panels and fix them using self-tapping screws.
- After all the panels are fixed, embroider the seams between them with a paint knife, and then glue them with a serpentine tape and seal them with a specialized putty.
- After sealing the joints, we treat the entire surface with a primer and level it with the finish putty. For best results, putty mixtures from the same manufacturer should be used.
Drywall from the company "Volma" is a material that is quite suitable for the interior decoration of the room with your own hands. Its characteristics are practically not inferior to the properties of GCR from manufacturers with world names, and its affordable cost makes it very attractive to many masters.
